This fine piece of Chinese broadsword is similar to the Podao and the Dadao. The Podao was used by Chinese infantry in an anti-cavalry capacity, hence the nickname “horse-cutter.” The Dadao was another large saber that was used by the Chinese militias against the Japanese in World War II due to a shortage of firearms. Whichever role it served, it served well.
