Upon the mantle rested the crimson sword, dimly glistening in the dusty, cobweb-riddled room about to be condemned and dismantled. Unknowable years it had seen in its faithful watch over family and home; generations of humans grew up, grew old, and grew together in its presence. It had been at least a century since the last swordsman hung up his blade, but even still this silent guardian keeps its post in the final moments.
