The Bamboo Citadel Katana is the third in Citadel Knives and Swords’ Limited Edition katana series. Each sword is signed by the smith on the nakago with its sword number; the edition is limited to 100 swords before the model is retired. Handmade by skilled artisans, it is described as a light and fast sword.
The hand-forged blade is made from imported European DNH7 high carbon steel and is differentially hardened. A bo-hi (fuller) lightens and balances the blade without sacrificing strength. The hand-cut, engraved tsuba is pure iron, with a hand-made nanako (stippled) pattern. Copper seki-gane inserts at the top and bottom of the blade opening use softer metal than the iron tsuba; they allow the opening to be shaped to fit the blade and adjusted if the fit loosens or the tsuba is fitted to another blade.
The tsuka (handle) and saya (scabbard) are hand-carved to fit each individual blade. The handle has a wooden core fully wrapped in same-gawa (ray skin) and genuine imported silk from Japan. The saya has a black semi-gloss lacquer finish and a ray skin wrap near its mouth to strengthen that area.
Specifications: Overall length: 40 3/8"; blade length: 27 3/4"; handle length: 11"; weight: 2lb 3oz; point of balance: 4 3/4"; thickness at guard: .25"; thickness at tip: .2"; sori: 3/4"; blade steel: DNH7. Specs will vary slightly from piece to piece.
