The Classic Tiger Katana by CAS Hanwei is a nostalgic reissue of the original (S) folded steel katana made in the early 2000s. Its specifications are painstakingly reproduced for accuracy; specs will vary slightly from piece to piece.
The 29 3/4" C powder steel blade is differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. Its hada shows distinct layers, the hamon is prominent, and a bo-hi groove runs along both sides of the blade.
The tsuba is blackened iron depicting a stalking tiger inlaid in brass. Ray skin (same) covers the tsuka handle beneath Japanese Cotton. The saya is deeply lacquered in black and inlaid with brass bamboo leaves.
