This custom-made Damascus steel skinner knife has an 8.5-inch overall length and a 4.5-inch hand-forged blade made from 15N20 and 1095 high carbon tool steel. Its full-tang hardwood handle is 4 inches long and set with a mosaic pin; the spine has custom file work. A genuine leather sheath is included.
The Damascus blade is made by forge welding multiple layers of steel into a solid billet, then folding and re-welding it several times. The steel is manipulated during forge welding to create its pattern, which acid highlights by reacting differently with the hard and soft steel layers. The layered steel is described as providing flexibility and toughness, as well as invisible serrations that aid cutting. Blade hardness is 55-60 HRC on the Rockwell scale.
